We are a level 2 neonatal unit specifically designed and equipped for babies needing extra medical and nursing care. We have 8 intensive care (IC) and high dependency (HD) cots and 12 special care cots. Many babies come to the unit because they are premature or unwell. Each year, around 300 babies require admission to our neonatal unit.
The daily ward round usually starts between 9 and 10 am and lasts for approximately 1.5 – 2 hours and between 1-3 pm, babies on the unit have their “quiet hour” where activities are kept to the minimum. This is to facilitate an uninterrupted rest period for the babies and parents are encouraged to spend this protected time with their baby.
Parents are welcome to visit at any time. Other visitors including siblings can visit between 3.00 pm to 7.00 pm. During the winter period with restricted visiting, only parents and grandparents are allowed to visit.
If you or your partner is unwell please inform the nursing staff and visiting will be advised accordingly. Other friends or relatives should not visit if they are unwell.
There are four lead consultants on the neonatal unit and your baby’s care will be primarily under one of them, however it is likely that your baby will be seen regularly by all 4 consultants during their stay. They are Dr Tristan Bate, Dr Michele Cruwys, Dr Abbas Khakoo and Dr Jide Menakaya
Our unit manager, Miss Suet Mei Yoon ensures that all families receive a high standard of nursing care.
