Unit Policy

The Neonatal Service at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital is based around our regional (level 3) neonatal intensive care unit, where we look after babies born prematurely or who have other problems after birth. We are part of the Northwest Thames Neonatal Network and provide the designated neonatal surgical service for this region. We admit babies from both within this area and all over London and southeast England for specialist medical and surgical care.
Day/night team handovers are from 08.00 to 09.00 and 20.00 to 21.00.
Our ward rounds start at 09.00 daily and they can last until midday on some days.
Parents may attend the ward round for their own baby but we ask them to step outside the nursery when we are seeing the other babies in the nursery to preserve confidentiality.
Main reception is open from 08.00-16.00 and then 16.30-20.30 for enquiries.

Visiting Hours

Parents are welcome on the neonatal unit at any time of day or night.
Parents may have up to 4 named visitors for their baby who are allowed to visit between the hours of 15.00 and 20.00. No more than 2 people may be at the baby’s cot at any one time, one of whom should be a parent.
Brothers and sisters of all ages are welcome to visit under parental supervision. Other children under 11 years of age are not permitted to visit.
During winter months, due to the high risk of respiratory viruses, siblings under 11 years will not be allowed to visit.
