Unit Policy

Level 3, Intensive Care Unit Medical and Surgical.
Consultant rounds begin approx. 08:30 until whenever they end. ITU 1 Neonatal Consultant Team led,
ITU 2 -, Surgical Consultant and team plus Neonatal Consultant team combined round.
High Dependecy Unit - covered by ITU2 consultant. SCBU, Neonatal Consultant led on Monday & Friday, Junior Dr’s/ANNP’s + Senior Sister led Tuesday-Thursday. Consultant always available for advice.
TC- consultant and team led by SCBU team. ROP screening on Tuesdays cons/reg led with 1 nurse.
Resp clinics with 2 consultants on Wed, Development Clinic withy 2 consultants on Tues, Perinatal with 2 consulatnts ,on Thurs. Neonatal Clinic with 1 consultant on Fri.
X-Ray meeting on Tues, MDT teaching all day on Thurs, Nurse teaching Wed,
Evening handover is between 16:30 – 17:00 , 1 on-call consultant at night.

Visiting Hours

Parents and Grandparents only , 24 hrs visiting for parents ONLY. Grandparents are allowed between 15:00-19:00 and must visit together with the parents,
Siblings restricted to Sunday between 15:00-19:00. Exceptions will be considered especially when there are palliative care patients.

Unit Facilities

Restaurant on level 5 of main tower. Costa coffee shop in foyer in Whitechapel Rd entrance. (plans for more but building work still on-going). No cash-point facilities. Plenty of shops and mini super markets , markets and restaurants all around Whitechapel . All main banks along Whitechapel Rd.
3 Rooming in rooms for parents of the main ward with The Children’s Trust able to accommodate parents that have to travel a distance and/or have a very sick baby/child.

Public Transport & Car Parks

No car parking facilities but by meter around the local area. Free on Sundays.
Whitechapel station directly opposite the hospital accessed by District and Hammersmith and City Tube Lines. Whitechapel overhead rail service.
Aldgate East and Liverpool Str stations 30min walk.
